Commission reports eight of nine CPC grants approved

Historical Commission · Meeting of February 24, 2026

Pepperell Historical Commission hears eight of nine Community Preservation Act grants cleared for May's town meeting. Al Barcovich, a Historical Society representative, told the commission the Community Preservation Committee will present the nine approved articles individually rather than as one combined vote, though town meeting could still merge them. A Recreation Commission volleyball court application failed for lack of a town field master plan.

The commission's own restoration project was funded at $9,000, down from a preliminary $10,000, with $1,000 set aside as a contingency after cutting a "clerk of the works" line item. Members reviewed $1,325 sitting across three dormant preservation reserve accounts, including a $997.21 Covered Bridge Committee fund and a $210 Colonel Prescott Statue Fund. One member said, "why would we do anything on town hall before we fix the roof."
