Pepperell Planning Board approves Ampet gas station tank replacement with conditions

PEPPERELL — October 16, 2017 — Pepperell Planning Board clears the way for underground fuel tank replacement at 11 South Road gas station. The board voted unanimously at its October 16 meeting to approve a minor site plan for the Ampet Service Station, authorizing owner Ahmad Almadani and Senior Project Manager Jason Wiggins of Carriage House Consulting to remove aging underground tanks, excavate roughly 300 cubic yards of contaminated soil, and discharge up to one million gallons of treated groundwater into the Nashua River. Approval came with conditions requiring the applicant to satisfy outstanding concerns from the Board of Health — including a Title 5 septic inspection the prior owner apparently never completed — the Department of Public Works, and the Conservation Commission, which was scheduled to hold its own hearing on the project October 17. The board also required written documentation showing the town school bus fleet, which parks on the same property, can be accommodated outside the fenced construction zone during excavation. In separate action, the board accepted a revised Approval Not Required lot-line plan for 13 Maple Street and continued a Pierce Street common drive public hearing to November 27 at 7:45 p.m. at the applicant's request pending resolution of ongoing negotiations.
