Board of Health · Meeting of October 13, 2026

Pepperell's Board of Health approved a one-foot septic setback variance for a repair project at 18 Celestial Way in a 2-0 vote Tuesday, clearing a leach field design that avoids a costly pump system. Health Agent Kayleen told Chair Stephen and member Joe that test pits found only three feet of separation to groundwater, a foot short of town regulations, but that town water service supports the reduced buffer. The board also tabled a bid by an applicant named Hansen to become the town's third approved well-water sampler after he did not join the virtual meeting, and decided to call Ray's Package Store in for a hearing over its lapsed tobacco permit rather than send staff for a site visit.

Kayleen reported the town's landfill, now past its 30-year DEP monitoring mark, is showing mostly "non-detective zeroes," supporting a pending request to reduce testing frequency and cut monitoring costs for the town.
