Pepperell Board Swears In New Fire Chief, Sets October Special Town Meeting

PEPPERELL — June 24, 2019 — Pepperell installs Brian Bornemann as fire chief and moves soil reclamation case toward September court deadline. The Board of Selectmen swore in Bornemann — a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, Townsend, and Merrimack, New Hampshire fire departments, and most recently risk and emergency manager at Fitchburg State University — before a gallery of visiting chiefs from Maynard, Chelmsford, Northborough, Ashby, Groton, and Townsend. Town Administrator Andrew McClain told the board and an attentive audience that the town and the soil reclamation project proponent will notify the court by June 28 that no mediation will occur, with a discovery deadline set for September 30. The board set the one-day liquor license fee at $50 for nonprofits and $75 for for-profits on a 3-1 vote, reduced an electrical permit fee for Pepperell Christian Fellowship Church from $1,375 to $1,250, waived the administrative portion of an Eagle Scout electrical permit from $120 to $70, and set October 21 as the tentative special town meeting date.
