Pepperell Climate Change Committee unable to act after failing to reach quorum

Climate Change Committee · Meeting of July 16, 2026

Pepperell's Climate Change Committee met July 16 without a quorum and took no formal votes. Members reviewed a 2025 community electricity aggregation report showing more than $440,000 in total savings since program launch, with roughly 3,000 of the town's estimated 4,000 household accounts on the default basic tier and 233 commercial accounts participating. Discussion turned to a possible barrier to new solar investment: an existing supply contract with an outside source identified as Clinton may require surplus solar generation to be sold back to the grid at low wholesale rates, which one member said "may not be worth it just because of the prior contract." The committee also floated a resident "sponsor a tree" model tied to the community garden and discussed approaching Pepperell Media about a monthly half-hour climate podcast.

Members said they would coordinate by email on whether to hold an August meeting.
