Pepperell Receives Maximum Green Communities Grant for School Energy Work

PEPPERELL — July 17, 2017 — Pepperell accepts maximum Green Communities competitive grant for school LED and weatherization upgrades. Town Administrator Mark Estabrook told the Board of Selectmen at the July 17 ceremony that the town received the highest amount the grant program allows, with more than 40 percent of the award directed to the school system for LED lighting and weatherization improvements. Superintendent of Schools Joan Landers attended and credited the town's "wonderful, collaborative relationship" with the Select Board for consistently including the school in energy initiatives. Matt Whittemore of Guardian Energy Solutions, the town's outside contractor on the project, and Sean McGloin of National Grid were recognized for their roles. One speaker urged the board to begin preparing immediately for a potential additional competitive round worth $250,000 available within the next 12 months.
