Pepperell Recreation Commission backs Prescott statue land transfer, tables softball fencing fight. Chair David Ganong's board voted unanimously to support shifting control of the 4 Main Street statue site to Recreation, a step member Alan Leao said is needed to pursue Article 97 protection and Community Preservation Committee funding; the group has raised nearly $10,000 and pledged to cover at least 50 percent of costs. Softball field director Matt Thomas asked for exclusive spring and summer use of two Varnum fields, plus fencing, calling the town's current diamonds "somewhat of an embarrassment," but Pepperell Soccer's Pasha and James warned it would cut off fields used by 60 to 80 kids a session.
No vote was taken; the commission ordered site walks at the Bartleson and Glow complexes within two weeks. Members also reviewed a $13,900 Community Center repainting quote, up from a roughly $9,000 estimate two years ago.
