Pepperell Select Board Votes to Offer Town Administrator Post to Andrew McLean
PEPPERELL — October 18, 2018 — Pepperell Select Board formally offers town administrator post to Andrew McLean at $120,000. The board voted 2-1 at a special October 18 meeting to ratify in open session an executive-session decision to offer the position to McLean, with the package including a $2,000 stipend for declining town health insurance, four weeks of vacation, a six-month severance for dismissal without cause, provision of a computer and phone, and salary reviews allowing up to a 2.75 percent increase beginning July 1, 2019. The vote followed a pointed dispute over process: one member argued the board should wait for a completed background check before formalizing any offer, while the chair maintained that the contingency language in the motion — making all terms conditional on a clean background check — was sufficient. "The background check is our last stop to say, no, this guy isn't what we want," the chair said. The dissenting member voted against, saying, "I don't feel comfortable unless the background check is done first."
