Pepperell Selectmen Accept Purple Heart Designation, Fill Two Volunteer Seats

PEPPERELL — November 25, 2013 — Pepperell selectmen accepted Purple Heart community status and approved a slate of routine appointments at Monday's meeting. Harry Perkins, past department commander of the Department of Massachusetts Military Order of the Purple Heart and a Boxford-based Vietnam veteran wounded in 1967, presented a plaque to the three-member board on behalf of Commander Leo Agnew, with state Sen. Eileen Donoghue and state Rep. Sheila Harrington adding legislative citations from their respective chambers. The board unanimously appointed Robert Sweeney to both the IST Committee and the Cable TV Advisory Committee through June 30, 2014, and promoted Susan McCarthy to Assistant Council on Aging Director, both within the existing COA budget. Police Officer Ryan Fogerty's resignation was accepted effective December 15 after he was admitted to the Massachusetts State Police 81st Recruit Training Troop. A Common Victualler's license for China Express was transferred to Hua Ching Chen through December 31, 2014. A public hearing on a motor vehicle light service permit at 129 Main Street was continued to December 16 pending an engineering report on river protection from Meridian Engineering.
