Pepperell Selectmen Appoint Interim Town Administrator, Launch Permanent Search

PEPPERELL — May 30, 2018 — Pepperell selectmen voted unanimously to appoint former Town Administrator John Moak as interim administrator and Police Chief David Scott as a temporary emergency point of contact at their May 30 meeting. Scott's appointment runs from May 30 through June 12; Moak's 90-day interim appointment begins June 12 and runs through September 12, with the board working toward a permanent hire by November 1. Moak, who previously served as Pepperell's town administrator and lives in Salisbury, will work 24 to 26 hours per week on a three-day schedule. The board also discussed two versions of a town administrator job description — one from 2009 and one from 2014 that draws directly from the town charter — but continued that item to its June 11 meeting after at least one member had not yet reviewed either document. Under the charter, a seven-member screening committee has 90 days from its organizational meeting to submit three to five finalists; the board has 30 days to make an appointment. In public comment, residents Carol Nadeau and Renee D'Argento reported outreach to officials in Hollis, N.H., Dunstable, and the Nashua River Watershed Association over a potential local reclamation project, with Hollis selectmen now engaging their own attorney.
