Pepperell Selectmen Approve Groton Paramedic Pact, Launch Tri-Town School Facilities Review

PEPPERELL — October 19, 2015 — Pepperell selectmen voted to formalize a two-year backup paramedic intercept agreement with the Town of Groton and adopted a new health insurance policy under the Affordable Care Act at their October 19 meeting. Superintendent Joan Landers of the North Middlesex Regional School District asked the board to designate a representative and alternate to a new tri-town facilities subcommittee that will assess the future of the Peter Fitzpatrick School — whose lease with the district expired in June — and the Squannacook Early Childhood Center, closed after blizzard damage with an active FEMA claim. Town Administrator Mark Scholl noted each town insurance slot costs between $12,000 and $15,000 per year and said aligning open enrollment with the July 1 fiscal year start would improve budget planning. Scholl also briefed the board on plans to file a Green Communities application the following day and presented options for joining the Massachusetts Community Compact program to improve the town's standing for state grants. On the Kinder Morgan pipeline, Pepperell remains a secondary route; Scholl confirmed the town has filed intervenor paperwork and the next regional coalition meeting is set for November 9.
