Pepperell Selectmen Direct Staff to Resolve Cemetery Figurine Dispute for Veteran's Family

PEPPERELL — August 25, 2014 — Pepperell selectmen direct staff to investigate removal of a grave-site soldier figurine honoring a Bronze Star veteran. Resident Phil Darnow appeared before the board August 25 on behalf of the family of Don Linguin, a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran and Bronze Star recipient buried at the Park Street Cemetery, saying cemetery staff had confiscated a roughly foot-and-a-half soldier figurine the family had placed there for three years without prior objection. The board directed staff to investigate and placed the matter on the agenda for its next meeting. The board also heard a town administrator's warning that a proposal by a group identified as MCGI to deposit construction soils on land near the Pepperell Municipal Airport on Nashville Road could jeopardize the airport's certification, based on information submitted by airport property owner Mr. Shattuck. The town is also accepting applications for a Council on Aging Director through September 12, at a salary of $51,762 to $58,213.
