Pepperell Selectmen Offer Fire Chief Tyler $90,000 Contract With June 20 Deadline

PEPPERELL — June 12, 2017 — Pepperell selectmen voted unanimously to offer Fire Chief Toby Tyler a two-year contract worth $90,000 in year one and $100,000 in year two, giving him until noon on June 20 to respond. The board, meeting June 12, simultaneously authorized Town Administrator Mark Andrews to contact a second unnamed finalist with the identical offer if Tyler declines, and to launch a new search if that candidate also declines. Andrews reported nearly $200,000 in newly secured grants, including a $57,298 FEMA Assistance to Firefighters award for pagers and medical equipment, a $70,000 Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game conservation grant placing 36.8 acres of Nissitissit River land into permanent protection, $45,000 combined for a town master space plan, $15,000 for IT storage, and $13,981 from the Nashoba Valley Health Care Fund for chest compression devices. The board also formally recognized Nashoba Valley Technical High School valedictorian Bryson Tang — bound for Worcester Polytechnic Institute on a presidential scholarship — and salutatorian Callie Bridges, along with North Middlesex Regional High School valedictorian Rachel Reckard, who will attend UMass Amherst's Honors College to study criminal justice.
