Pepperell Selectmen Seat Town Administrator Search Committee, Continue Permit Hearing

PEPPERELL — August 11, 2014 — Pepperell selectmen seat a Town Administrator Search Committee and confirm a new recreation director at a short-handed August 11 meeting. Meeting with only two of three members present, the board voted unanimously to appoint Assistant Assessor Maureen Bulger, Police Chief David Scott, and Library Director Deborah Spratt as full committee members, with Fire Chief Toby Tyler as department-head alternate and Planning Board member Anna J. McDonald as the at-large representative; Margaret Scarsdale and Ellen Cleo were named additional alternates to meet the charter's seven-member interview requirement. The board also confirmed Nancy E. Archer as Recreation Facilities and Program Director, effective August 15. A public hearing on special permit SSP 14-01 — sought by Theogenes Gaius of Harry's Motors, LLC for motor vehicle light service at 129 Main Street — was opened and immediately continued to August 25 at 7:45 p.m., requiring a full board for a decision. On the budget front, selectmen warned that defeat of the September 9 override question would force nearly $2 million in service cuts over five years, and the town administrator reported that a pending eviction at 52 Lowell Street must recover more than $95,000 in back taxes and related costs.
