Pepperell Selectmen Unanimously Appoint New Patrolman to Police Department

PEPPERELL — January 8, 2018 — Pepperell selectmen unanimously appointed a new patrolman and named a Personnel Board employee representative at a brief January 8 meeting. The board appointed John Coburn, a six-year law enforcement veteran most recently working in Manchester, New Hampshire, to a patrol vacancy left by the retirement of Sergeant Greathead, after Coburn placed first in the department's oral board and written exam; a separate promotional process for sergeant is planned for March. Maureen Bulger, the town's assistant assessor, was also unanimously appointed employee representative to the Personnel Board after town counsel confirmed her eligibility despite her supervisory role. Town Administrator Mark's state-of-the-town report showed free cash at $1,808,000, a Stabilization Fund balance of $667,345, and more than $535,000 in grants received, with the town carrying three consecutive balanced budgets and three clean audit reports. Board Chair Melissa announced she will not seek re-election, opening a Selectmen seat after 11 years of service that began on the Conservation Commission.
