Pepperell Selectmen Vote to Schedule Knights of Columbus Liquor License Hearing

PEPPERELL — March 28, 2011 — Pepperell selectmen schedule a Knights of Columbus liquor license hearing after a patron's OUI crash knocked out power across town. The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously March 28 to schedule a public hearing on the Jersey Street club's license after Police Chief David Scott reported that a driver who struck three utility poles on March 10 had been drinking at the club for roughly four hours before the crash. The board also heard from newly sworn-in State Senator Jennifer Donohue, who told members she was working on health insurance plan-design flexibility for municipalities and pledged to address unfunded mandates, as Chairman Patrick McNab warned the town still faced a roughly $500,000 structural deficit heading into FY12. In other action, the board unanimously approved a voluntary health insurance opt-out incentive of $2,000 per employee and a $400 family / $200 individual bonus for switching to the Rate Saver plan effective July 1, adopted the town's first formal non-discrimination and equal employment opportunity policy, and reappointed Sandra Proctor to the Nashoba Valley Technical High School Committee.
