Pepperell's Conservation Commission approved an order of conditions for the Burke's Pond dam-removal restoration and pushed a contested 81 Main Street project to November.
Conservation Commission · Meeting of October 6, 2026
Pepperell's Conservation Commission approved an order of conditions for the Burke's Pond dam-removal restoration and pushed a contested 81 Main Street project to November. Chair Robert Elliott presided as engineer Jonas of the Horsley Witten Group detailed replanting and two-year monitoring of the Sucker Brook site, after member Patricia Swain Rice flagged non-native black walnut and Cornus sericea in the planting plan: "I don't think that's a good choice for this spot." Wetland scientist Michael Schmidt of Goddard Consulting showed up alone for the 81 Main Street hearing after the applicant's team went dark, learning the Zoning Board of Appeals had pushed back hard on the project's size at an October 5 hearing. The commission approved $278 in bills payable and heard that Zone 9 deer hunting season now runs into January.
Its October 20 meeting was canceled; the next is November 10.
