CPC Approves More Walton Cemetery Stone Repairs
Pepperell's Community Preservation Committee voted 5-0 to spend leftover Walton Cemetery restoration funds on more broken headstones.
Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026
Pepperell's Community Preservation Committee voted 5-0 to spend leftover Walton Cemetery restoration funds on more broken headstones. The committee's original $20,000 Community Preservation Act grant covered straightening and restoring approximately 194 gravestones, but the contractor completed 266 stones for a $14,550 invoice, leaving about $5,000 available. Chair Bob Cataldo said roughly ten more broken stones need repair and plans to get a new contractor bid.
Member Al Patenaude argued a vote wasn't strictly necessary since the original scope language, read aloud by Clerk Kathy Pries, covered "the straightening and restoration" generally, but the committee voted anyway "to be transparent." In unrelated news, member Alan Leao reported the Select Board placed Article 97 covenants on a Main Street site, a move he called key to future Community Preservation Act funding for a proposed Colonel Prescott statue.
