Pepperell Agricultural Commission clears right-to-farm bylaw for fall Town Meeting

Agricultural Commission · Meeting of August 18, 2026

Pepperell Agricultural Commission clears right-to-farm bylaw language for fall Town Meeting, weighs new farmland grant role. Co-Chair Sherrill Rosoff told the remote meeting Aug. 18 that town counsel found the proposed amendments, which update outdated references from the Board of Selectmen to the Select Board, ready to go: "I see this as a green light. It's a go." Select Board member Tony pitched the commission on becoming the lead signing entity for a shared-use farmland grant on a 30-acre Jewett Street parcel donated by owner John Duke, working with Tufts' New Entry Sustainable Farming Project; a vote is set for Aug. 25 ahead of a Sept. 16 letter-of-intent deadline with the Cummings Foundation.

The commission also confirmed eight farms, including Kimball, Kinstead and Upswing, for its Open Farm Day tour, and noted a Sept. 10 ribbon-cutting for its farm cold-storage project, held in memory of the late Ed Kennedy.
