Pepperell Commission Approves $710,000 Purchase of 22-Acre Water Supply Parcel

PEPPERELL — November 12, 2024 — Pepperell Conservation Commission approves $710,000 purchase of 22-acre water-supply parcel and two conservation restrictions. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to endorse a purchase-and-sale agreement for the so-called Sampas property at 1-15 Cranberry Street, a 22.1-acre parcel lying mostly within Zone 2 of the town's wellhead protection overlay district, with funding drawn from four sources: $350,000 from the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game, $30,000 from the Nashoba Conservation Trust, $155,000 from the Pepperell Conservation Land Fund, and $175,000 in town ARPA funds. A separate conservation restriction on the parcel will be held by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts acting through its Department of Fish and Game and Division of Fisheries and Wildlife. The commission also approved a conservation restriction on the 44.79-acre Duke family donation at 83-85 Jewett Street, to be held by the Pepperell Conservation Commission, and accepted a phased wetland-buffer restoration plan for 54 Park Street, where a homeowner performed unpermitted clearing within a resource area, requiring fall stabilization and spring planting by mid-2025.
