Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee · Meeting of March 4, 2026
Pepperell's Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee voted unanimously to send an expanded invasive plant management plan to the town administrator. The plan would add guidance covering privately owned farmland, land under development, DPW roadside work and chemical control methods, following a request from Select Board member Tony Beattie about farmland resources. One member said she was "slightly nervous" about advising farmers without agricultural expertise, and the group struck language about pursuing grants on farmers' behalf.
Separately, members learned a long-stalled state bill creating a Massachusetts invasive-species agency has cleared both House and Senate Environmental committees for the first time in about four years and now awaits Ways and Means, with a state representative asking for letters of support by month's end. The committee also confirmed its native seed giveaway with library Circulation Director Cheryl Burgess and voted to adopt a Thoreau-inspired theme, "I went to the woods because...," for its community art show.
