Pepperell Plant Committee Backs Outside Watershed Group's Invasive Guide for Town Website

Pepperell's Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee voted to overhaul its town website and replace its existing invasive-plant fact sheets with links to the Sudbury-Assabet-Concord Watershed Association's online guide. Meeting virtually on July 23, the committee reached consensus on stripping the main page down to the committee charge, meeting information, and contact details, and on organizing the sidebar into two sections, native plants and invasive plants, rather than the originally proposed three. Members agreed the existing fact sheets, adapted from New Hampshire Department of Agriculture documents with permission, are too technical for general audiences and do not cover several invasive species found in Pepperell.

One member argued in favor of the SuAsCo site because "if they update it, it's going to update anyway" — removing the maintenance burden from the committee. The chair also confirmed she closed a $750 Pepperell Cultural Council grant for the pollinator garden and submitted a final report for a Wild and Scenic invasive-removal toolkit grant. The next meeting was rescheduled from August 6 to August 13 and may be held in person at the Pepperell Public Library to facilitate collaborative website review.
