Pepperell Council on Aging Votes to Buy New Commercial Grill for Up to $3,000

Pepperell Council on Aging approves $3,000 grill replacement and elects new vice chair. The board voted unanimously at its June 23 meeting to draw up to $3,000 from the center's gift account to replace the Al Harris Center's commercial-grade grill, which Director Bethany Lovelace said could only be safely operated by lighting each burner individually before reassembly: "Sounds like an accident waiting to happen, frankly." The board also heard that the center's recently completed roof project came in at $83,100, funded through legislative earmarks from Representative Scarsdale and the late Senator Kennedy, a restricted gift account, and unspent formula grant funds. Lovelace reported the town budget account was at 95.67 percent spent with a projected finish near 99.3 percent, and that 6,303 meals had been served this fiscal year with a $1 price increase to $5 per meal taking effect July 1.

Vice Chair Peter Nordberg, estimated to have served approximately 11 to 12 years on the board, attended his final meeting, and Irene Reddy was unanimously elected to succeed him as vice chair.
